Employment Unions

Unions provide defense against the natural instincts of corporations to cut anything to maximize short-term profits. Unions are good for workers as well as for the long-term sustainability of companies. Collective bargaining empowers workers and has spurred employer-provided health-care, the 40-hour workweek, vacation time and weekends.

The modern right has attacked unions as a relic of a bygone age, a bloated industry in and of itself that colludes with mob-bosses and buys off government. They believe that because workers-rights have been generally accepted, unions should slip away. Imagine the uproar if you suggested the same about the Constitution, or more specifically, the 2nd Amendment. Moreover, the notion that "union fat cats" are stifling business is genuinely laughable, corporate interests make huge profits and contribute more than 10x more than worker groups to politicians. Unions are most certainly the David in this fight.

Remember the Titans of Obstruction

For the previous two years, liberals have rightfully bemoaned the crippling pace of legislation on the federal level. The notion that the United States Senate needs a filibuster-proof majority for every bill is obscene, the equivalent of a high school-feud has been stalling the nation during one of its most trying times.
